4) FIRST AID MEASURES
EYES
Contact lenses should be removed. Irrigate copiously with fresh clean water for at least 10 minutes, holding the eyelids apart and seek medical advice.
SKIN
Remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin with soap and water or use a proprietary skin cleaner. DO NOT USE solvents or thinners. If skin irritation continues, consult a doctor.
INGESTION
If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the container label or this sheet. Keep at rest. DO NOT induce vomiting. Rinse out mouth and then drink plenty of water.
INHALATION
Remove to fresh air, keep the patient warm and at rest. If breathing is stopped or irregular, administer artificial respiration. Give nothing by mouth. If unconscious place in the recovery position and seek medical advice.
GENERAL
In all cases of doubt, or when symptoms persist, seek medical attention. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

5) FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Extinguishing Media Recommended: Sand, alcohol resistant foam, CO2, powder, water spray/mist. DO NOT USE WATER JET.
Use appropriate breathing apparatus. Cool closed containers exposed to fire with water spray. Do not allow run-off from fire to enter drains or water courses.
FIRE AND EXPLOSION RISKS
Many of the premises where paints and solvents are stored and used are subject to the requirements of the HIGHLY FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS AND LIQUEFIED GASES REGULATIONS 1972 and/or the PETROLEUM (CONSOLIDATION) ACT 1928. Explosion, fire, or both can arise from: The ignition of flammable liquids or vapour/air mixture, the ignition or spontaneous combustion of dried combustible residues e.g., overspray and sanding residues. Attention is drawn to the importance of good house keeping, adequate ventilation and the exclusion of sources ignition to minimise fire and explosion risks.
SOURCE OF IGNITION
All foreseeable sources of ignition should be identified and appropriate precautions taken. They include: "Hot Work" i.e. welding, brazing and grinding. Smoking should be prohibited in all areas where surface coatings are stored and used. Electrical equipment in areas where flammable concentrations of vapour may reasonable be expected to be present should comply with the recommendations contained in BS5345. In cases of doubt, the advice of the local Factory Inspector or Petroleum Officer as appropriate should be sought. Space heating for areas where highly flammable liquids are used should not incorporate bare electrical elements or switches. Vehicle engines should not be switched on or allowed to run where a flammable concentration of vapours may reasonably be expected. Precautions should be taken to prevent the accumulation of dangerous charges of static discharges. When cleaning spray equipment, take the same precautions as when spraying and refer to equipment manufacturers instructions.
FIRE PRECAUTIONS
Mechanical exhaust ventilation should be provided to ensure that:
a) Dangerous concentrations of vapour do not accumulate.
b) "Intake" air is drawn from an uncontaminated source.
c) "Exhaust" air is conducted to a safe place where there is no risk of re-entry into buildings.
Means of escape should be adequate, clearly identified and kept free from destruction. Fire escape routes must be available for use at all times. Adequate fire prevention and fire fighting equipment must be provided. Appropriate self-contained breathing apparatus if required. Solvent resistant boots and gloves.
6) ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES (SPILLAGE)
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Exclude sources of ignition and ventilate the area. Exclude all non-essential personnel. Avoid breathing vapours. Refer to protective measure listed in sections 7 and 8.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS
D0 NOT allow to enter drains or water courses. If product enters drains or sewers, the fire brigade should be notified. Vapours are heavier than air and may spread along floors. They may form explosive mixtures with air.
Recovery
Contain and collect spillage with non-combustible absorbent materials, e.g. (sand , earth, vermiculite diatomaceous earth) and place in a suitable container for disposal. Clean the spill area preferably with a detergent . Avoid the use of solvents.

7) STORAGE AND HANDLING
Handling
Vapours are heavier than air and may spread along floors. Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air. Provide adequate ventilation. Avoid vapour concentration higher than occupational exposure limit. Avoid inhalation of vapour and spray mist. Avoid skin and eye contact. Keep away from sources of ignition. No smoking. Use explosion protected equipment. Apply earthing when transferring from one container to another. Wear antistatic footwear and clothing. Floors should be of the conducting type. Keep container tightly closed. Keep product and empty container away from heat and sources of ignition. No tools with a potential for sparks should be used. Do not eat, drink or smoke in application area. Comply with the Health a safety at Work Laws. Keep only in the original container. For personal protection see section 8. Container is not a pressure vessel: never use pressure to empty. When operators, whether spraying or not, have to work inside the spray booth where the ventilation is unlikely to be sufficient to control particulates and solvent vapour in all cases. In such circumstances they should wear a compressed airfed respirator during the spraying process and until such time as the particulates and solvent vapour concentration has fallen below the exposure limits.
Storage
Store in accordance with local/national regulations. 0bserve label precautions. Recommended storage temperature: 5 and 3OoC. Store in a dry, well ventilated place away from sources of heat and direct sunlight. Keep away from sources of ignition. No smoking. Keep away from oxidising agents, from strong alkaline and acid materials. Prevent unauthorised access. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed. Keep container upright to prevent leakage. The principles contained in the HSE guidance note "Storage of Packaged Dangerous Substances" should be observed when storing this product.
A) Flash point below 21oC and the product subject to the Petroleum (Consolidation) Act 1928. Store in accordance with the conditions of the licence which is necessary under the Petroleum Consolidation Act
1928.
B) Flash point between 22oC - 32oC. The storage and use of this product is subject to the requirements of the Highly Flammable Liquids and Liquefied Petroleum Gases Regulations. Up to 50 litres of such highly flammable liquids may be kept in a work room provided that are kept in a fire proof cupboard or bin. Larger quantities must be kept in a separate store room conforming to the structural requirements of the regulations.
C) Flash point above 32oC. Although the storage of this product is not subject to the specific statutory requirements, the principles contained in the HSE guidance note Storage of Flammable liquids in containers should be observed.

Xylene (mix) 1330-20-7 OES 100 ml/m3 150 ml/m3
OES indicates an Occupational Exposure Standard. MEL indicates a Maximum Exposure Limit. SK indicates a risk of absorption through the skin.
LT Exp indicates a Long Term Exposure Limit - 8 hour time weighted average. ST Exp indicates a Short Time Exposure - 15 minutes time weighted average.
Respiratory
When workers are facing the concentrations above the exposure limit they must use appropriately certified respirators.
Air-fed respiratory equipment must be worn when sprayed. Other people near by should be similarly protected if the exposure cannot be controlled to below the OEL and engineering controls and methods cannot reasonably be improved.
Skin
Avoid contact with skin.
Eye
If there is any risk of injury or product in the eye, then suitable safety glasses/goggles or face shields approved to BS2092 must be worn at all times.
